We are looking for our next Executive Director to join our Buddy Up Team.

This position is full-time and work from home / office as required. There is the possibility of domestic travel depending on operational requirements. 

Although the location is detailed as Perth WA, we welcome applications from suitable candidates nationally.

Purpose

The Executive Director is ultimately responsible for the operations of the organisation and implementing the strategic direction of the company limited by guarantee accordingly to ASIC regulations, and as a Not-For-Profit and registered charity in accordance with ACNC requirements. 

The Executive Director is responsible for the financial and risk management including ensuring appropriate training, communication and use of systems and funds by Buddy Up Australia (BUA) employees, volunteers and members. The Executive Director's organisational management will drive a diverse revenue stream and ensure membership engagement to achieve BUA's charitable objective through our mission and vision.

Key Responsibilities

General:

  • Executive Director on the Board of BUA; and
  • Comply with, and actively champion BUA’s Mission, Values and Code of Conduct at all times ensuring all activities are in line with Buddy Up's Purpose.

 

Strategic:

  • Undertake strategic and business planning with the Board for achieving the organisation's short and medium-term goals for approval by the Board of Directors. This includes 3-year budget plans, financial strategy, proposed organisational structures, and risk management plans.

 

Operational:

  • Provide leadership and support to employees, contractors, volunteers and members of BUA and attend events where possible, to ensure they are run in accordance with the organisation's mission and code of conduct;
  • With the assistance of the Board, build a strong organisational culture based on a shared understanding of, and commitment to, the Buddy Up values and mission;
  • Employee and volunteer management including recruitment, performance management, training and coaching to ensure a high performing team;
  • Oversee strategic acquisition and implementation of new and existing systems to support BUA operations;
  • Organisational Risk Management framework as well as implementation of internal controls and regular review and reporting;
  • Policies and procedures developed and regularly reviewed to maintain currency and reflect contemporary trends and best practice; and 
  • Be competent and confident in guiding dynamic change management processes as the organisation grows.

 

Financial

  • Develop budgeting plans for Board review and approval and manage the organisational budget adhering to Board directives;
  • Actively seek and apply for grant opportunities and ensure all requirements are met as well as adhering to grant spending guidelines; and
  • Develop, implement, and oversee funding initiatives which diversify the organisation's revenue stream beyond grant funding for financial sustainability. 

 

Communication:

  • Identify, plan, and prioritise actions intended to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders, as well as foster connections, trust and confidence to pursue the organisation's key initiatives; 
  • Maintain regular schedule of internal operational meetings with appropriate personnel to provide support, and ensure the organisation is operating as per the strategic plan; 
  • Undertake regular accurate and relevant reporting to Board on financial, operational and strategic directives; 
  • Maintain timely and effective communication with the Chair of the Board between Board meetings on day-to-day matters, strategy development and problem solving; and
  • Communicate effectively with all Board members as required, including during Board meetings, and for out of session information sharing or matters for decision.

 

Requirements and Skills

Essential

  • Degree qualification in business or similar or minimum 5 years equivalent relevant experience 
  • Highly developed communication skills including negotiation, coaching, influencing and stakeholder management, conflict resolution skills as well as grant writing and other written communication skills.
  • Business acumen including knowledge of governance and risk, marketing and finance
  • Leadership and organisational management 
  • Financial management – budgeting, and cashflow forecasting 
  • Australian C Class Licence
  • Proficient in using Office 365
  • Access to a computer/laptop 
  • Ability to use or learn mobile app technology

 

The successful applicant will be expected to hold current certifications in First Aid and Mental Health First Aid, as well as a current national police clearance. If the applicant does not already hold them, these items will be funded by BUA.

 

Desirable

  • AICD certification
  • Experience and understanding of ACNC and ASIC requirements for a Not-for-Profit
  • Business Development experience including volunteer recruitment and management
  • Fundraising experience for a Not-For-Profit
  • Experience through:
    • Working in the Australian Defence Force or Emergency Services (or an immediate family member); and/or
    • A Not-For-Profit organisation.
