The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) is a Victorian public health service and a world-leading comprehensive cancer centre, dedicated to excellence across all spheres of clinical care, research and education. About the team

Peter MacCallum runs a  specialist Lower Gastrointestinal oncological surgical program delivered by 8 consultant surgeons. The unit focuses on colorectal, pelvic, and peritoneal malignancy, including advanced rectal cancer, colorectal cancer, appendix cancer and anal cancer. There is a strong focus on robotic surgery, along with multivisceral resections and pelvic exenterations, and cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC).

There is a strong research program, across clinical and translational research, and clinical trials.

About the role

Applications are open for a Colorectal Fellow position at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre to provide for the day-to-day clinical management of Lower GI patients under the care and direction of  the Lower Gastrointestinal Surgical Consultants.

The successful candidate will gain experience in the management of primary and advanced colorectal cancer, and pelvic and peritoneal malignancy. This will include exposure to primary and recurrent cancer resections, pelvic exenterative surgery, and cytoreductive surgery and HIPEC for peritoneal malignancy. The fellow will received specific training in robotic colorectal surgery with the expectation of being able to perform independent robotic colorectal surgery by the completion of the fellowship.  The fellowship will include administrative, teaching, quality improvement and research duties for the Unit under the Director of  Surgery and the Colorectal Tumour Stream Lead.

About you

We seek a surgical trainee who has completed general surgical training and is seeking advanced colorectal surgical training, with the aim of developing a focus on lower gastrointestinal malignancy.

Fellows will need to have attained their FRACS or equivalent.
