We're on the hunt for a Part-time/Fraction CFO / Strategic Finance leader, on an initial contract/project basis, to help us drive profitability improvement and develop the financial roadmap and infrastructure towards our long term goals. The perfect candidate will be open to a potentially transition to a full-time role at the right time, if we feel there is a mutual fit.

*This is a fully-remote or in-house role in our Brisbane/Adelaide Offices.

Role Purpose:

The primary purpose of this role is to add the Strategic Finance firepower we are currently missing, through an initial project of a revision and implementation of our financial model, cost structure, and forecasting and budgeting systems to drive company performance and decentralise decision making. This role involves working closely with the CEO and Leadership team to understand the business and build strong relationships that guide strategic decision-making and performance improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Analysis and Optimization:

  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for cost savings.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize profitability.
  • Monitor financial performance and provide actionable insights.

Revenue and Cost Structure Analysis:

  • Understand and evaluate the current revenue and cost structure.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement changes.
  • Develop financial models to forecast future performance.

Strategic Decision Making:

  • Develop strategic decision-making processes with robust financial analysis and for Leadership team and Department heads.
  • Provide performance targets aligned with the forecast and model revision, and cost management through budget system implementation.
  • Present data in a clear and concise manner to facilitate understanding and decision-making.
  • Developing a robust utilization/capacity management system

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders within the agency.
  • Communicate financial performance and strategic recommendations effectively.
  • Engage with team members at all levels to understand operational processes.

Operational Insight and Support:

  • Gain a deep understanding of the agency’s operational functions.
  • Work closely with operational teams to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
  • Support the implementation of operational changes to drive financial performance.

Key Competencies:

Strategic and Analytical Thinking:

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically.
  • Proven experience in financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and data analysis.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on driving results.

Communication and Relationship Building:

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong ability to develop relationships with the Executive team and Department heads.
  • Comfortable engaging with team members on the shop floor to understand operations.

Experience and Expertise:

  • Extensive experience within a fast-growing digital agency, ideally a performance marketing agency.
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions is preferable but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles and practices within an agency context.

Guidance and Mentorship:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship on how to best build the finance function and departmental team.
  • Support the development and growth of the existing finance team.

Minimum Requirements:

Educational Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • MBA or advanced degree in finance or a related field is preferred.
  • Professional certification such as CPA, CA, or equivalent.

Professional Experience:

  • At least 5 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably within a fast-growing digital agency or performance marketing agency.
  • Proven expertise in financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, and cost structure analysis.
  • Direct experience in managing financial operations of a digital marketing agency or similar environment, including revenue management, pricing strategies, and client profitability analysis.
  • Experience with M&A processes preferred, including due diligence, integration, and post-merger management.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in financial software and tools such as Excel, Power BI, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and financial management software (XERO experience an adavantage)
