Full Stack Developer (Java)

Robert Half are partnering with a well-established Australian organisation to recruit a Full Stack Developer. Operating for several decades across the information and digital services space, the business supports a broad network of institutions throughout Australia and New Zealand.

The organisation has developed a suite of large-scale platforms that blend technology, data, and operational expertise to deliver modern, efficient, and user-focused services. Their environment combines legacy system transformation with ongoing investment in contemporary web technologies and digital capability.

The Role

This is a high-impact Full Stack Developer role where you'll do far more than just deliver code. You'll work across both engineering and problem-solving, partnering with the business to shape solutions, explore ideas, and deliver real outcomes. You'll gain exposure to multiple systems and initiatives, giving you a broad and meaningful scope of work. The team is highly AI-forward, leveraging tools such as Claude Code as part of everyday engineering, design, and delivery workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain Java / Spring Boot microservices
• Develop React front ends integrated with REST APIs
• Work across multiple systems, balancing support, enhancements, and project delivery
• Contribute to large transformation projects
• Investigate issues raised via support and deliver pragmatic solutions
• Engage with stakeholders to understand problems and define appropriate solutions
• Operate in ambiguity - forming hypotheses, testing ideas, and iterating
• Take ownership of work end-to-end, from discovery through to delivery

Requirements:

• Strong experience with Java and Spring Boot
• Solid front-end experience with React
• Experience with REST APIs and PostgreSQL (SQL Server exposure beneficial)
• Comfortable working across modern and legacy systems
• Comfortable using Claude Code or similar AI coding tools
• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage non-technical stakeholders
• Ability to navigate loosely defined requirements and solve complex problems
• Proactive mindset - asks questions, challenges assumptions, and seeks clarity
