About the Role

We are currently seeking applications for the fixed term part-time (30 hours per week) role of Gambling Help Service (GHS) Counsellor and Community Educator, located at our Robina venue. This is a fixed term role for Parental leave coverage until 1 November 2024.

The purpose of the Gambling Help Service (GHS) Counsellor and Community Educator role is to provide high standard of gambling counselling to individuals, couples and families, and to promote greater public awareness about the social issues associated with problem gambling through the provision of information to specific target groups and the community.  

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Provide therapeutic counselling to reduce the impact and severity of those affected by problem gambling and their friends and family, and to enhance their personal wellbeing
  • Employ an integration of contemporary theoretical and evidence-based approaches to inform counselling treatment for individuals, including family members and friends, who have been adversely affected by gambling.
  • Operate within a client-centred practice which will support clients to work towards individual gambling change goals.
  • Provide community education interventions, such as provision of information, to raise awareness about the impacts of gambling and the promotion of responsible gambling practices.

Work days/hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant, however please note that the position holder will be required to work an evening shift (until 8pm) with flexibility needed in order to meet business requirements.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will have

  • Relevant undergraduate qualifications in behavioural science, psychology, counselling or social work,
  • Experience working therapeutically with addiction, specifically gambling, in a variety of settings (e.g. individuals, couples, families and groups).
  • Hold or willing to obtain membership with a relevant professional organisation that represents counsellors in Australia.
  • Have knowledge of and the ability to apply relevant legislation and regulations relating to relationships counselling.

The salary being offered is between $ 81,368.45 to $ 95,092.19 per annum pro rata for part time, to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation. We also offer our employees as follows::
