Garden Life has been creating beautiful urban gardens for over 20 years, and we are excited to be searching for a qualified and talented garden designer and plant stylist to join our thriving team. 

Working with principal, Richard Unsworth and the Garden Life team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, documenting and presenting designs for all kinds of city gardens, rooftops, balconies and courtyards. See www.gardenlife.com.au/garden_design/ for examples of our work. 

About the job  

Working from our base at St Peters you will design some of the most beautiful private gardens in Sydney. You will design mostly small spaces in urban areas. Smaller spaces do need a specialised approach - there are often design and installation challenges to overcome. Some projects require styling skills to optimise a collection of pots and plants. Some designs are more involved and include in-ground gardens and constructed elements.  

On a day-to-day basis you will work with our clients to understand their brief and be able to communicate the opportunities and challenges of the site along with a proposed vision.  You will use design programs to develop plans and documents to help communicate your proposed design. Finally, you must be able to work closely with the implementation team to ensure successful delivery and ongoing Maintenace.  

You will also help the Garden Life Retail Team and help build the team's styling skills. Sharing your Garden Design passion and knowledge.

About you 

You have a keen eye for detail and beauty. You can instantly spot what is working and how to make a space better. You also apply a solid design process to problem solving. 

You’re a people person and can build rapport quickly and build long term relationships. You are confident and can represent the company at site meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors.  You also like to work independently to develop detailed design drawings to fully articulate your ideas.  

You like working with all types of people and would enjoy working on some of Sydney’s most interesting and beautiful gardens with high-end clients.  

You have about 3-5 years' experience as a Garden Designer, and you are keen to expand your skills and knowledge working with Richard Unsworth.  

You love the design challenge of small urban spaces in Sydney which include rooftops and exposed balconies, along with shady subterranean spaces. You’re often wondering how a garden can enhance the interiors of the home to create a beautiful living experience immersed in nature.  

Mandatory  

To apply for this position, you must maintain:  

3+ years' experience as a Garden Designer. 

Elevated level of proficiency in Vectorworks, SketchUp and Adobe InDesign, delivering strong visuals. 

Have the right to work in Australia.  

A Driver’s License and a car.  

Excellent written and verbal skills, and at ease presenting and communicating with clients, subcontractors and consultants.
