Your Team The Strategy team oversees enterprise strategy development, long-term planning, and strategic initiatives across ASX, working closely with each of the business units to align organisational goals and execution.
Role Purpose The General Manager, Enterprise Strategy plays a critical leadership role in shaping the long-term strategic direction of ASX. Operating at the centre of the organisation's most important commercial and strategic conversations, this role sets enterprise-wide strategic priorities, partners with senior executives and the Board, and ensures ASX continues to operate, evolve, and innovate as Australia's critical financial market infrastructure provider.
The GM, Enterprise Strategy leads the design and delivery of ASX's strategic planning cycle, guides high-value strategic initiatives, and provides forward-looking insight on emerging market, industry, regulatory, and competitive developments. The role oversees a small, high-performing strategy team and works collaboratively across business units and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) to align strategy with organisational capability, financial plans, and execution pathways.

What You Will Lead & Deliver: Strategic Leadership & Enterprise Planning - Lead the development of ASX's multi-year corporate strategy and planning cycle ensuring strong alignment to ASX's vision and purpose, growth aspirations, and market opportunities.
- Coordinate strategic planning with the Board, Group Executives, and key senior leaders.
- Balance current organisational priorities with forward-looking strategic ambition.
- Align corporate strategy with business unit, financial, technology, and resource planning cycles.
- Provide thought leadership on the evolution and continuous improvement of the strategic planning function.
Strategic Projects & Commercial Insight - Facilitate and partner on enterprise-level strategy projects addressing growth opportunities, operating model enhancements, market trends, regulatory shifts, competitive dynamics, and customer needs.
- Translate complex insights into actionable recommendations for executive decision-making.
- Apply rigorous qualitative and quantitative analysis (e.g., market scanning, commercial modelling, scenario planning) to support strategy development.
- Identify opportunities to enhance organisational agility, value creation, and long-term competitiveness.
- Maintain deep market, industry, and innovation awareness to inform strategic planning.
Market, Industry & Innovation Focus - Become an enterprise-level expert in ASX's business, core capabilities, and competitive advantages.
- Maintain a forward-looking view of global exchange trends, emerging technology and AI developments, regulatory themes, and market infrastructure innovation.
- Provide external perspective by engaging with industry bodies, consulting partners, investment banks, and strategic advisors.
Leadership of the Strategy Function - Lead and develop a high-performing team (2 FTE), fostering excellence, analytical rigour, and strong stakeholder engagement.
- Build strategic capability and uplift across ASX by coaching leaders and enabling strategic thinking organisation-wide.
- Work collaboratively with the Enterprise Customer and Operations team to monitor and manage strategy execution across ASX
- Actively influence senior decision-makers through structured, evidence-based recommendations.
- Facilitate strategic discussions and support the CFO and Finance Leadership Team with shaping and governing strategic agendas.
Executive & Board Engagement - Prepare high-impact papers and facilitate presentations and strategic planning workshops for the ELT and Board.
Your experience and qualifications Must have's - Extensive experience in Financial Services focused strategy consulting or group level corporate strategy within Financial Services.
- Demonstrated experience managing strategic planning cycles in complex organisations.
- Experience designing and executing complex strategic or operational initiatives.
- Proven capability in analytical modelling, commercial analysis, and executive-level communication.
- Strong track record influencing senior stakeholders and facilitating decision-making at ELT and Board level.
- Experience leading teams or developing other high-potential individuals.
Technical & Professional Skills - Exceptional structured problem-solving, critical thinking, and conceptual reasoning.
- High competence in financial and commercial analysis.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including executive-ready presentation skills.
- Ability to manage ambiguity, navigate complex issues, and make sound strategic judgements.
- Understanding of digital, AI, and technology-enabled strategy is advantageous.
- Tertiary qualifications in Business, Finance, Commerce, Economics, or related fields; postgraduate qualifications (MBA, CFA, CA) highly regarded.
Nice to have - Experience in commercial acquisitions or dispositions.
