The Role
The Stawell Urgent Care Centre provides the Stawell community and local surrounds with access to emergency and urgent care when required. The Urgent Care Centre has 8 available cubicles including two resuscitation cubicles and provides care for approximately 7500-8500 patients per year. The Simpson Ward at Stawell Hospital has 12 inpatient beds. There are two operating theatres, specialist medical and surgical outpatient clinics and a day oncology centre.
The Rural Generalist role is to provide medical cover onsite at the Urgent Care Centre between 10:00-1800, then in an on-call capacity between the hours of 18:00-08:00 for all adult and paediatric ATS category 1 and 2 and category 3 patients who do not meet the Victorian Virtual Emergency Department (VVED) inclusion criteria. VVED is utilised from 18:00-08:00 hrs for non-complex category 3 and all category 4 and 5 patients presenting to the Urgent Care Centre.
Rural Generalists assist with medical reviews on Simpson ward during the week and on the weekend conduct structured ward rounds renumerated according to EBA penalty rates. The Simpson ward is supported by a junior medical staff member seven days per week.
Work at the Stawell Medical Centre on non Stawell Urgent Care rostered days can be also arranged. The Stawell Medical Centre is a well regarded part of the community having served the community for more than 70 years. It has eight consulting rooms and two treatment rooms and provides services including women's health and sexual and reproductive health.

Stawell is approximately 230 kms west of Melbourne within the Northern Grampians Shire with traditional owners being the Wotjobaluk, Jardwadjali, Wergaia and Jupagalk nations. Stawell is famous for the hosting Australia's richest sprint carnival, the Stawell Gift. It is the gateway to the Grampians National Park with renowned hiking and camping and the famous climbing areas of Mt Arapiles is nearby. Local industry includes mining, agriculture and the only neutrino observatory in the southern hemisphere which is located in the Stawell Underground Physics Laboratory. Stawell also sits at the doorstep of the Grampians wine region, famous for boutique wineries producing exceptional Shiraz, Riesling, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
