Job Description - Group Leader


 


At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners – from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.


 


 



  • 2 x Ongoing Full-Time Role

  • Location: Liverpool

  • Salary $129,464.00 up to $142,665.00 p.a. plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading


 


 


 


About the role


 


The role manages day-to-day operational and site-based issues including coordinating responses to school emergencies to ensure schools remain safe, functional and operational. The role also oversees maintenance programs, capital works projects, school and community funded works, as well as demountable management to deliver safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes.


 


You’ll lead a team of Asset Services Officers, providing clear direction, building accountability and driving consistent performance. This is a highly visible role that requires close collaboration with schools, contractors and internal teams to ensure issues are resolved quickly and planned works are delivered effectively.


 


We’re looking for people who are organised, solutions-focused and comfortable managing competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong leadership capability is essential—you’ll need to support and develop your team, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively while delivering quality outcomes for schools.


 


Key skills and experience


 



  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and motivate a team

  • Strong project or program management skills, ideally in facilities, construction, or maintenance

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

  • Ability to prioritise, manage risk, and drive outcomes across multiple projects

Renewal is not required after the WWCC expires, as long as you remain in a non–child-related role. Employer obligations only apply while the WWCC is valid.


 


Candidates must have Australian work rights (citizens, permanent residents, New Zealand citizens or a valid work visa). Ongoing (permanent) roles are open to Australian citizens and permanent residents and New Zealand citizens, while temporary roles welcome applicants with a visa.
