The HMC Group has extensive aviation, tourism, and accommodation operations in some of the most iconic regions of Australia and is seeking to appoint a Group Risk and Compliance Manager to drive the strategic direction risk and compliance across the Group.

About the role:

There is a strong focus on continuous improvement and development. This highly collaborative role is at the core of spearheading a strong compliance and risk management culture. The ability to effectively partner with each business unit to assess, monitor, and mitigate risks and support the various regulatory compliance obligations will be key.

Key Duties and responsibilities include:

• Stay updated on all legislation, standards and regulations that apply to HMC Group’s businesses with a particular focus on workplace health and safety
• Support each business unit to understand their various compliance work health and safety obligations
• Develop and implement a workplace health and safety policy that incorporates appropriate controls to mitigate health and safety risks
• Continuous improvement of policy, processes, systems and training 
• Development and ongoing maintenance of the enterprise risk management framework
• Facilitate a strong culture of awareness and compliance across the Group through the development and delivery of regular training and other awareness initiatives
• Complete safety investigations and review safety investigations conducted by other safety investigators to ensure the adequacy of the investigation, report and closure of findings in a timely manner
• Maintain an effective hazard and incident reporting framework based on 'Just Culture' principles and personnel engagement
• Prepare and submit regular reports on key safety, risk and compliance indicators for safety committee meetings, the Board and business unit leaders.
• Coordinate with external auditors and regulators as required

About you:

• Extensive experience in a similar position
• Previous aviation experience is not essential
• Tertiary qualification in Workplace Health and Safety or equivalent
• Demonstrated experience in creating strategies and implementing operational initiatives that assess risk and support the organisation in the mitigation and management of operational and strategic risk
• Expert knowledge of contemporary safety issues and best practices, coupled with a deep understanding of statutory framework governing safety and risk
• Experience in the development and implementation of risk management frameworks.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate in a confident and positive manner in both a written and verbal capacity
• Analytical mind and excellent problem-solving skills, able to interpret various regulatory requirements and standards and devise solutions that balance competing risk and compliance requirements with operational objectives
• Ability to travel domestically, mostly within WA as required
