About Us

StrumTree is an Australian Company that provides group guitar classes and sessions to older adults in Canberra, so that the community is enriched through music. At StrumTree, it is our belief that music is a mind, body, and spirit experience, and should be accessible and attainable to all people, with a focus on helping older adults attain their goals with guitar music.

We have a range of guitar classes from beginner to advanced levels. We hold face-face classes across Canberra, ACT in Wanniassa, Downer, and Gungahlin.

Type: Casual - up to 13 hours a week during daytime from Tue-Fri.

$40-$50/hour plus 14% Super.

When: Starting in February 2025

We are looking for an enthusiastic guitar teacher with a flair for entertainment to join our team. We are also looking for someone willing to perform and lead music activities in aged care homes.

Who You Are

What we're looking for:

• A competent guitarist with performance experience, and a knowledge of music theory. You have experience in a variety of styles, e.g., contemporary, classical, jazz. You can read guitar tabs and sheet music.
• A Bachelor of Music, or vocational training in music is highly regarded and recommended, though not a requirement.
• Preferably has at least 2 years' experience in teaching guitar or music either privately or with another organisation.
• Comfortable singing in front of a group.
• Enjoys working with older adults and understands their learning needs.
• Is reliable, organized, and able to work independently.
• Experience working with aged care is valued.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Has WWVP Card

Teacher: The teacher plays a vital role in delivering high-quality guitar classes to adults over 50, while creating an enjoyable and engaging learning environment. Their primary responsibility is to create an enjoyable environment that allows students to learn the guitar at a comfortable pace while students connect with their peers in the group.

Music Activity Leader (MAL): The MAL visits aged care residents to perform and lead sing-along sessions on the guitar. This involves the MAL learning and playing popular songs, sometimes with songs requested by residents, with the intention of having the residents sing along to the guitar music, and spark some conversation and social bonding between song changeovers. The MAL’s primary responsibility is to provide fun and entertainment through playing guitar, to foster community within aged care places.
