Health and Safety Officer

The Bonaccord Group is an Australian-owned and operated family business producing quality produce since 1975 and freighting perishable goods since 1989. Located in Eastern Victoria, its close proximity to the Gippsland lakes system means temperatures are mild, creating ideal growing conditions all year round. With rich alluvial soils, and the Mitchell River along with some private off-river storage for irrigation, Bonaccord produces a range of fresh produce that can be picked, cooled, packed and freighted for purchase the next day by the consumer, both within Victoria and interstate.

We currently seeking an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join our team. 

The key responsibilities for this position are:

• To oversee and monitor a consistent Occupational Health, Safety and Risk management system across the Bonaccord Group. 
• Communicate with Operations Director and Compliance Manager on a daily basis to determine what needs to be done and set priorities.
• Assist HR administrator to identify training needs of staff across the Bonaccord Group.
• Coordinate ongoing training for safety and environmental awareness at all levels of the workforce and regularly verify that tasks are correctly executed.
• Assist supervisors and personnel in meeting their obligations under the relevant Occupational Health & Safety legislation, such as ongoing safety education, hazard identification and elimination.
• Ensure that the company policies, procedures and instructions as outlined in our company Quality Management System are carried out in a satisfactory manner.
• Ensure the company’s workplace safety procedures are implemented and pro-actively take responsibility for the worker’s safety in the workplace. 
• Investigate accidents, prepare and maintain required reports. 
• Promote a proactive safety culture focused on incident prevention and regulatory compliance.
• Organise and participate in safety committee meetings.
• To ensure that staff are operating in a safe manner and wearing all appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). 
• Maintain, review and report safety performance, identifying opportunities for improvement along with implementing preventative and corrective actions as required.
• Assisting Return to Work Coordinator on worker’s compensation claims and return to work arrangements. 
• Perform other relevant duties as directed by the Operations Director or Compliance Manager.

The successful applicant will require: 

• General knowledge and experience in the safe and legal operation of farming vehicles, machinery, and transport.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations.
• Team orientated, with the ability to be self-motivated.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
