HMC Depot Engineer (Temporary opportunity for up to 21 months)

In this role, you'll:

• Provide technical Electrical advice to support Maintenance Centre staff by referring to technical standards, specifications, schematics and procedures to enable a timely and effective resolution of technical maintenance issues to rolling stock.


• Coordinate and provide input to implementation of Engineering Modifications, special actions and technical investigations.


• Ensure fleet reliability performance is promoted through the use of Root Cause Analysis and investigation.


• Oversee testing and repair of Rolling Stock faults to design specifications, performance standards and fault finding complex faults to achieve availability objectives. 

This is a Temporary full‑time position based in Hornsby, ending in May 2028. You will be required to travel across the Sydney Trains Network and at times work outside normal business hours to support both operational and project needs.

About you

• Hold relevant Electrical Engineering Degree or Diploma with Appropriate Experience in a Heavy Maintenance Workshop Environment.


• You will have sound knowledge and use of technical standards, specifications, schematics, systems and maintenance procedures.


• Have analytical and problem solving skills for diagnosing and resolving technical problems and issues, in particular root cause analysis and failure mode effects analysis.


• Sound Interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. Must have the ability to liaise with internal and external customers and stakeholders. 

Exposure and working experience in OSCAR, EAM systems, Lean Principles and rolling stock although not mandatory are highly desirable. 

Being a site based role this position requires someone who resides in the Sydney area and can travel as required in and around the Sydney Trains locations.
