About Cardijn 


Cardijn College is a dynamic R–12 co-educational Catholic school in Adelaide’s Southern Vales, inspired by the Marist tradition and the vision of Cardinal Joseph Cardijn and St Marcellin Champagnat. Position Overview



The Middle and Senior House Leaders holds significant leadership position at the College and is required to exercise innovative, creative, and purposeful leadership towards the academic and pastoral development of all students within their House. The House Leaders are responsible for the Pastoral Care development, wellbeing, and academic progress of students in their respective houses, supporting them to achieve their full potential. The House Leader’s primary responsibility is individual case management of every student within their House to ensure their academic, pastoral, physical, and spiritual development is supported. The House Leaders are required to develop and foster relationships with families through proactive and regular communication. In this position, the House Leaders works closely with the Director of Students (Middle/Senior), Deputy Head of Campus, Campus Leadership, Homeroom Teachers, and other colleagues.



              Key Responsibilities 




    Student Development:



    • Management: Oversee the development and management of students in their House, including tracking behavior, wellbeing, and academic progress.

    • Attendance: Monitor daily attendance, punctuality, and address frequent absences or lateness.

    • Goal Setting: Help students set and achieve academic goals.

    • Homework: Address homework and study issues with students, staff, and families.

    • Induction: Support new students, helping them acclimate to the College.

    • Guidelines: Ensure adherence to College uniform and cleanliness standards.

    • Assemblies: Organise House Assemblies and collaborate on House Mass with the APRIM.

    • Behavior: Promote positive student behavior and maintain family contact regarding student development.

    • Presence: Be present during Morning Homeroom and Pastoral Care lessons.

    • Liaison: Coordinate with College staff on discipline and wellbeing, and oversee pastoral care curriculum.

    • Transition: Assist in the transition of new students and support student leadership and activities.


    Case Management:



    • Counseling: Advise students and families on academic progress and expectations.

    • Support: Coordinate with Student Development Officers for additional support as needed.


    Leading & Managing Staff:



    • Review: Implement processes for staff and student review and quality improvement.

    • Grievances: Address grievances using restorative practices.

    • Mentoring: Support and mentor early career teachers in pastoral care and student wellbeing.


    Policy & Procedure:



    • Support Levels: Follow and contribute to the College's "Levels of Support" for student behavior management.

    • Critical Incidents: Handle critical incidents and maintain proper documentation.


    Other Duties:



    • House Culture: Develop and promote House identity and culture.

    • Family Engagement: Build and enhance family connections with the College.

    • Administrative: Manage House-related administrative tasks.

    • Meetings: Attend relevant meetings, conduct House meetings, and participate in enrolment interviews.

    • Confidentiality: Handle confidential information properly and notify appropriate staff if students are considering leaving the school.

    • Detention: Supervise Saturday Detention as needed.

    • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by the Principal or delegate.



    About You




    • Commitment to Catholic Values: Active support for the College’s mission and values.

    • Experience: Strong teaching and classroom behaviour management skills. 

    • Skills: Exceptional communication, problem-solving, and organisational abilities.

    • Qualifications: Current Teachers Registration in South Australia, Teacher Accreditation in Catholic Education and relevant mandatory training.
