The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.
The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.
The QFD is an organisation that is committed to reframing the department’s relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through activities identified in the QFD Reframing the Relationship Plan, contributing to Closing the Gap outcomes and building our cultural capability.
The Capital Works team leads and facilitates the annual programming and scheduling of allocated projects and related activities to ensure delivery of the department’s statewide capital, medium and minor works program, including the RFSQ portfolio of builds. The team contributes to the strategic planning, evaluation, and interpretation of relevant legislation and standards to ensure QFD meets whole-of-government building and accommodation requirements and provides specialist building and construction advice to ensure best value capital investment is realised, and best practice asset management optimises the useful life of QFD built asset portfolio.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, you will be responsible for managing, coordinating and delivering a diverse range of RFSQ capital works projects. You will ensure complex matters such as property and infrastructure planning, and options analysis are comprehensively developed, including budget and funding, and contract management are appropriately facilitated. You will work collaboratively with RFSQ business leads and key stakeholders to develop strategic project plans to ensure timely delivery of assets that achieve fit-for-purpose outcomes through best practice project methodologies and meet operational and organisational objectives.
