Lots of jobs promise variety, but this position will see you across all aspects of WALGA business, communicating via traditional and mainstream media, as well as through digital and social platforms.

You will be communicating directly and often with our audience as WALGA moves into a new and exciting communications and marketing phase.

What do we mean by that?

WALGA

• has just undergone a re-brand.

• has a brand-new website.

• is developing a new Strategic Plan, which includes a significant communications component.

• is building a new in-house Content Studio for video, podcasting, and digital production.

• has a communications and marketing team which is well-resourced and motivated.

Supporting the broader Advocacy portfolio and WALGA, your work will help promote our profile and reputation in the Local Government sector and to our 139 Member Councils.

What does a typical week look like?

As part of WALGA’s communication team, and in collaboration with the marketing team, you will be creating, curating, distributing, and publishing high-quality written content for internal communication campaigns.

These internal campaigns can be planned – like our publications, promoting our events, managing, and publishing our electronic direct mail, or reactive – such as responding to State and Federal policy announcements, posting social media, or unexpected developments in the sector.

This position will also lead and champion social media communications and campaigns, write articles and assist in the production of WALGA's magazine Western Councilor, and manage our Local Government Directory.

Enough about us. Let’s talk about you.

We are looking for an individual who has a range of writing styles, prides themselves on their written communication and has experience adapting messaging to resonate with diverse audiences. Someone who has their finger on the pulse with relevant communication trends and language and is excited to work as part of an inclusive team who are all about knowledge sharing, new ideas and innovation.

The job would suit a writer, journalist or copywriter and someone with demonstrated experience writing traditional and digital content for a wide range of audiences.

You’ll also enjoy interaction, consulting across the WALGA portfolios and be happy and proud to see your work make a difference.

You will enjoy seeing your work published and directly informing our internal stakeholders, at WALGA, and in the Local Government sector.
