The Role

Two positions open to join Australia’s longest-running Indigenous current affairs program Living Black as an Investigations Producer. In this role, you'll be a key contributor to Living Black, Living Black Conversations, Karla Grant Presents, and special programs, ensuring they reflect the values and vision of SBS.

You’ll be working in a supportive, collaborative environment where creativity and precision are highly valued.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating to produce and direct Living Black programs on intricate subjects.
  • Bringing your research and creativity to the editorial direction of our programs, initiating compelling story ideas.
  • Engaging with guests for Conversations, studio forums, and investigations, from initial contact to pre-interviews.
  • Preparing comprehensive briefs, program structures, and shooting scripts.
  • Overseeing the production of investigations from story conception, shooting, scripting, editing through to on air.
  • Traveling across Australia with initiative and enthusiasm.
  • Coordinating with interviewees and stakeholders for travel and recording arrangements.
  • Working alongside the digital team to create and promote engaging online content.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced professional who is passionate about storytelling, with a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and a commitment to making a difference through impactful journalism.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a television journalist, with expertise in long-form storytelling and production techniques in current affairs.
  • A deep understanding of digital audiences and their role in NITV's broader strategy.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to thrive under pressure while meeting strict deadlines.
  • A talent for generating fresh, imaginative ideas and a natural curiosity about diverse subjects.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of First Nations issues, supported by a wide range of contacts.
