Join Our Team as a Field Service/Workshop Technician

Company: McKavanagh Engineering Services Pty Ltd

About Us:

With over 20 years of excellence, McKavanagh Engineering Services is a leading pioneer in industrial safety consulting and service in Queensland. We specialise in helping clients meet regulatory obligations and fostering a culture of innovation and support. Be part of a dynamic and supportive environment where your contributions matter.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated Field Service/Workshop Technician to join our team. This full-time role, based in Mackay, offers a unique opportunity to establish a stable career with occasional FIFO and DIDO for site visits!

A Typical Week in the Life of Our Technician:

Imagine starting your day with the sun just peeking above the horizon. As a Field Service/Workshop Technician, you hop into your company vehicle, coffee in hand, and drive towards a client site. On today’s agenda is a thorough survey check of gauges at a customer site. The client loves your ability to spot non-conformances that others might miss which ensures safety and compliance.

Tuesday: A Day in the Workshop

In our workshop, every day’s a busy one, and we need someone who’s not only sharp with their skills but can also handle a bit of everything. Whether you're behind the wheel of a forklift shifting some hefty gear, or firing up the welder to knock out some custom pieces, you'll have plenty of variety to keep you on your toes.

Wednesday: The Problem Solver

Midweek throws a curveball. A client reports a gauge read-out is faulty, threatening to slow or stop production. You rock up onsite with all your PPE and replacement components, diving straight into the problem, while also noticing safety signage needs replacing, and organising a quote through your team. It’s all in a day’s work for you: part tradie, part company rep, always ready to lend a hand and a bit of know-how.

Thursday: Routine Checks and Balancing Duties

Thursday's all about keeping things ticking over smoothly. You kick off early, taking in the morning air on your drive, gearing up mentally for the day. It's full-on with routine maintenance - every gauge readout and survey meter gets your expert eye. You log each check on your work app, making sure everything's up to scratch with the tough safety standards. Your thorough reports are key; they keep McKavanagh Engineering Services' reputation top-notch, ensuring the customer’s compliance and peace of mind.

Friday: Flexibility and Teamwork

As Friday rolls around, you're back in the workshop collaborating on a team project. Today's goal is to restore an older gauge, sandblasting it and respraying it to make it as-new. You take the lead on the technical aspects of the project. It's the satisfaction of seeing an old gauge come back to life through your skilled refurbishment which leads into a relaxing weekend with friends and family.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct site radiation surveys and audits.
  • Engage in Class 7 transport and packaging (training provided).
  • Maintain strong client relations and support our Mackay Manager.
  • Perform various operational and service tasks in both field and workshop settings according to your skills.

Desirable Skills and Qualifications:

  • Valid Queensland Driver’s License and Forklift License.
  • Experience with hand and power tools preferred.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Must pass a criminal history and security check.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Fully maintained company vehicle.
  • Monthly paid rostered day off.
  • A dynamic and supportive work environment that values individual contributions and supports professional development.
