The Role

• Assist with the drafting, review and negotiation of contracts, agreements and other legal documents.
• Provide timely and practical legal advice to a range of internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and policies.
• Support the legal team in managing risk, resolving disputes, and interpreting legislation affecting council operations.
• Conduct research and prepare legal opinions on local government matters including procurement, property, planning and regulatory issues.
• Help monitor and implement changes in relevant legislation and policies.
• Liaise with external counsel and stakeholders as required.
• Support the wider legal and governance team on projects as they arise.

About You

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD), admitted or eligible for admission as a solicitor in NSW.
• Up to 2 years' post-admission experience, ideally with exposure to government, property, or commercial law (including work placements or internships).
• Strong communication skills with an ability to simplify complex legal concepts for non-legal colleagues.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and time management.
• A collaborative team player with a flexible, proactive approach and willingness to learn.
• Professional, ethical, and committed to public service values.
