Position Overview:

As a Kitchen Porter (also known as Kitchen Steward), you will play a key supporting role in our kitchen by assisting chefs, cooks, and kitchen supervisors in ensuring that the kitchen runs smoothly. You will be responsible for cleaning and maintaining kitchen equipment, assisting with food preparation, ensuring the kitchen is well-stocked, and managing supplies. This role requires excellent organisational skills, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to cleanliness and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

• Kitchen Cleaning & Maintenance: Ensure the kitchen is kept clean and tidy at all times, including washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils, and sanitising all surfaces and equipment.
• Stock Management: Help organise food supplies and stock in the kitchen and storage areas. Ensure all food and non-food items are stored correctly and that stock levels are maintained.
• Assisting with Food Prep: Support kitchen staff by assisting with food preparation, such as peeling vegetables, chopping ingredients, and assembling dishes as directed by the chef.
• Equipment Care: Maintain kitchen equipment, ensuring it is cleaned, stored properly, and in good working order.
• Waste Disposal: Manage waste disposal by ensuring food waste is disposed of properly and the rubbish bins are regularly emptied.
• Stock Ordering & Shopping: Assist in the procurement of kitchen supplies as needed, helping with shopping for ingredients and other necessary items.
• Health & Safety Compliance: Follow all food safety and hygiene regulations, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and ensuring safe food handling practices at all times.
• Team Support: Work closely with chefs, cooks, and other kitchen staff, providing assistance in a timely and efficient manner.

Skills & Attributes:

• Previous Experience: While prior kitchen porter experience is preferred, it is not essential. On-the-job training will be provided.
• Strong Work Ethic: Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to Detail: A focus on cleanliness, organisation, and maintaining a tidy working space.
• Team Player: Ability to work well with others, taking direction from senior kitchen staff.
• Physical Stamina: This is a physically demanding role that may require lifting and standing for extended periods.
• Reliable and Punctual: Dependability and punctuality are essential, ensuring the kitchen is ready for service at all times.
