Employment Type: Part-Time


Duration: Ongoing 


Remuneration: $86,983.77 - $95,683.91 + 17% Superannuation

The Opportunity


We are looking for two Laboratory Assistant’s, to join our growing team. The positions which are being offered are for an ongoing 0.5FTE (18.25 hours per week). The days of work may vary each semester or trimester in line with timetable allocations, student numbers, and operational requirements. 


 


Reporting directly to the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Assistant will play a vital role in supporting our teaching staff to deliver practical science classes. You will contribute to maintaining a well-organised and efficient science laboratory environment conducive to student learning.

Key Responsibilities




  • Under the direction of the Laboratory Manager and Technicians, maintain an efficient system for the use and allocation of materials and equipment, establishing priorities to support both laboratory and science teaching staff.




  • Collaborate with Laboratory Technicians and science teaching staff to guide students on the correct use and care of laboratory equipment.




  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of equipment and materials, including labelling, storage, stocktaking, and ordering processes.




  • Provide and maintain appropriate safety equipment and ensure safety information is available to all laboratory users.




  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in a safe and operable condition, including maintaining an asset register and a maintenance and replacement schedule.

    About You




To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:




  • Diploma of Applied Science or equivalent, and/or a Cert IV 




  • Experience working in a laboratory environment within an educational institution.




  • Solid Biological background, with flexibility and competence to work across chemistry and physics labs




  • Sound knowledge of the application of chemical and biological safety, and demonstrated safe work practices in line with Codes of Practice.
