Laboratory Technician

Join our passionate Science team and play a key role in delivering engaging, hands-on learning experiences for students across Middle and Senior School. As a Laboratory Technician, you will support the smooth operation of our science laboratories through the preparation of practical activities, maintenance of laboratory resources, and collaboration with teaching staff.

This is a full-time position, commencing in Term 1, 2027.

The role:
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor and working closely with Science teachers, you will prepare and coordinate laboratory materials, equipment, and resources for practical lessons across a range of science disciplines, including General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Psychology. You will contribute to creating a safe, organised, and well-equipped learning environment that supports student learning and scientific discovery.

• Prepare, transport, and set up laboratory equipment and materials for practical classes and demonstrations.
• Support teachers and students during practical activities and experiments.
• Assist with laboratory demonstrations and provide guidance on the use and care of equipment.
• Prepare cultures, agar plates, biological specimens, solutions, stains, and media.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, glassware, safety equipment, and preparation areas.
• Manage laboratory inventories and ensure adequate stock levels are maintained.
• Support the implementation of data-logging and laboratory technologies.
• Coordinate the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals in accordance with safety regulations.
• Assist with risk assessments, safety documentation, and compliance requirements.
• Support Science Week activities, open days, displays, excursions, and curriculum development initiatives.
• Coordinate minor equipment repairs and maintenance requirements.

What do I need to succeed?

• An appropriate science or technical qualification.
• Experience working as a Laboratory Technician or in a similar scientific support role.
• Strong organisational and time management skills.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures and protocols.
• The ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and colleagues.
• Experience within an educational environment will be highly regarded
   

A valid Employee Working With Children Clearance is a requirement for this position.
