Energy, Resources + Infrastructure 

Our multi-disciplinary team includes project, project finance, regulatory, infrastructure, construction, operational and corporate specialists who all have deep experience advising on Australia’s most complex energy and infrastructure projects.

We work on renewables and storage projects (including wind, solar, battery, alternative storage and hydrogen projects), renewable energy zones and infrastructure projects (including social housing and health). We act for a range of stakeholders including developers, investors (equity and banks), contractors and network operators.

About

In this role, you will work closely with Lixian Liang and Chris Flynn. Lixian has acted on the development and procurement of over 35 renewable energy projects, including wind farms, solar farms, battery projects, hybrid systems, and renewable energy zones. Her clients include sponsors, banks and contractors, who value her practical, commercially focused approach across all stages of project execution.

  

Together, Lixian and Chris offer a combination of technical expertise, collaborative thinking and sector knowledge. You will also work with ER+I partners across Sydney, Melbourne and Perth, including John Schembri, Jamie Gutherie, Adela Smith, Kon Nakousis, Michael Blakiston, Claire Boyd, Clare Pope, Zac Kerr and Simon Lynch.

Our Credentials

Our energy regulatory team is recognised for providing clients with commercial, strategic and legislative guidance in a dynamic environment.

  

Our team advises on:

• Renewable energy generation and storage projects (wind, solar, battery, hybrid systems)
• Transmission infrastructure and interconnectors
• Joint venture structuring, native title, land access and tenure arrangements
• Planning, environmental and regulatory approvals
• Project construction, procurement, power purchase agreements and grid connection
• Project financing and investment structuring
• Acquisitions, disposals and fund investments
• Regulatory and market reform advice—drawing on experience advising both regulators and regulated entities

About you

You are lawyer with at least 6 years’ post-admission experience, and experience working on complex matters across energy, infrastructure or major projects. You bring deep technical expertise and understanding of commercial considerations, and are ready take on greater responsibility and influence within a collaborative and supportive team.

You will also have/be:

• Demonstrated experience advising on front-end infrastructure, project development, energy regulation or major commercial transactions
• A strong interest in renewable energy and infrastructure reform, and the ambition to deepen your sector knowledge and interest
• Exceptional drafting and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated experience to lead workstreams and manage client deliverables
• The ability to foster trusted client relationships through insight, responsiveness and sound judgment
• A collaborative, team-oriented mindset and a commitment to mentoring and supporting junior lawyers
• An ability to plan and problem-solve effectively, stakeholder management and long-term client partnership
