About the Role

We’re looking for a Lead Android Engineer to join our team. This isn’t just about writing great code (although we do plenty of that). It’s about elevating the standard, technically, creatively, and collaboratively.

As a Lead Android Engineer, you’ll set the pace on complex Android builds, guide architecture decisions, and mentor a growing team of talented engineers. Working in cross-functional Agile teams, you’ll help bring ideas to life through intuitive, high-performing Android apps, partnering with some of Australia’s most recognised brands along the way.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end development of native Android applications using Kotlin
• Set technical direction and drive architectural decisions across projects
• Collaborate with designers, product managers, and clients to deliver world-class mobile experiences
• Coach and mentor developers to lift capability across the team
• Build reusable frameworks and patterns that support quality, scalability, and speed
• Champion best practices in coding, testing, CI/CD, and performance optimisation
• Stay on the front foot with Android trends and emerging tech

About You

You’re an experienced Lead Android Engineer who knows the SDK inside out and understands what it takes to deliver polished, scalable apps. You’ve shipped complex builds using Kotlin (and likely some Java too), and you bring deep knowledge of Android frameworks, design principles, and performance optimisation.

You’re confident working across the full development lifecycle and can translate business needs into technical solutions that hit the mark. From building UI that aligns with Material guidelines, to integrating RESTful APIs or managing background tasks with ease, you’ve got it covered.

More specifically, you have:

• Strong experience with Kotlin and Java, and a deep understanding of the Android SDK
• Familiarity with the open-source Android ecosystem and commonly used libraries
• Experience building apps that consume RESTful APIs and handle offline persistence, threading, and performance tuning
• Solid grasp of Google’s UI design principles, Material Design, and best practices
• A knack for benchmarking, optimisation, and writing clean, maintainable code
• Experience with Git, unit testing, and CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with Agile delivery, including sprint planning, task breakdown, and estimation
• A collaborative mindset, you enjoy mentoring, knowledge sharing, and contributing to a high-performing team culture
• Comfort engaging with stakeholders and Enterprise Solution Architects to help shape end-to-end solutions
• Confidence leading discovery and scoping, offering clear and considered technical recommendations
