Lead Architect

We are undergoing a technology reset to scale globally. We are seeking an experienced Lead Architect to be a strategic technical partner for our CTO, defining and evolving our technical architecture to support our mission of delivering safety at every stage of life. 

Why this role matters  

As Lead Architect, you will be the technical visionary responsible for designing scalable, secure, and innovative solutions that power Spacetalk's AI-driven safety platform. Working closely with the CTO and Head of Engineering, you will architect new solutions, oversee critical third-party integrations, and provide technical leadership across our engineering organisation. 

This is a senior technical role ideal for an experienced architect who thrives in designing complex, mission-critical systems that directly impact people's safety and wellbeing. You'll be instrumental in shaping our technology landscape as we scale globally and deepen our AI capabilities. 

Key responsibilities 

Architecture & Technical Strategy 

• Design and architect end-to-end solutions for our safety platform, spanning mobile apps, wearables, APIs, and cloud infrastructure 

• Define technical standards, patterns, and best practices across our TypeScript, Node.js, React, React Native, and AWS serverless technology stack 

• Lead architectural decision-making and provide guidance on technology choices that align with business objectives 

• Collaborate with the CTO to evolve our technical strategy and roadmap for international scale 

Integration Architecture & Oversight 

• Architect and oversee complex integrations with health systems, emergency services, and commercial APIs (e.g., Stripe, payment gateways) 

• Design secure, compliant integration strategies for both healthcare partners and third-party technical services 

• Ensure integrations meet regulatory requirements (SOC2, HIPAA, GDPR) while maintaining performance and reliability 

• Lead technical evaluation of integration partners and commercial API services 

Technical Leadership & Governance 

• Provide architectural oversight and guidance to engineering teams on technical decisions 

• Conduct architecture reviews and ensure solutions align with enterprise standards 

• Mentor engineering teams on design patterns, scalability, and security best practices 

• Champion cloud-native, serverless architectures to support Spacetalk's growth and reliability requirements 

Innovation & Future Planning 

• Research and evaluate emerging technologies, particularly in AI/ML, IoT, and health tech domains 

• Design scalable data architectures to support our AI-driven safety features and predictive analytics 

• Collaborate with Data Science teams to architect solutions that enable advanced AI capabilities 

• Drive innovation in wearable technology integrations and mobile health platforms 

You are a technical leader with deep expertise in designing complex, scalable systems and a passion for building technology that improves lives. You excel at translating business requirements into robust technical solutions and thrive in fast-paced, mission-driven environments. 

Key skills & Experience 

Essential 

• 5+ years of experience in solution architecture, with a focus on cloud-native, distributed systems 
• Strong expertise in AWS architecture (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, OpenSearch) and serverless design patterns 
• Proven experience architecting mobile-first solutions using modern web technologies (TypeScript, Node.js, React) 
• Experience designing API-first architectures and integrations with both industry systems (healthcare, emergency services) and commercial APIs (payment processors, SaaS platforms) 
• Strong understanding of security, compliance, and data privacy in regulated environments 
• Demonstrated experience in technical leadership and influencing engineering teams without direct authority 

Highly Desirable 

• Experience architecting solutions in healthcare, safety, or regulated industries 
• Knowledge of AI/ML system architecture and data pipeline design 
• Experience with IoT device integration and wearable technology platforms 
• Familiarity with Apple Health, Google Fit, and mobile health platform integrations 
• Experience with React Native and cross-platform mobile architecture 
• Knowledge of Terraform, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices
