Job Description

We are seeking a Hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the backend team responsible for Streaming core platform and APIs. This role is designed for a technical expert who excels at building resilient, high-concurrency systems and is equally passionate about developing the engineers who build them.

You will be a key contributor to our codebase while managing the team's delivery and professional growth. You will bridge the gap between high-level architecture and line management, ensuring our backend services are scalable, secure, and maintainable.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Actively write, review and deploy code (Go), leading the development of distributed systems and core APIs that power the experience for 9Now and Stan.

• Drive best practices in automated testing, CI/CD, zero-downtime deployments, and staged rollout strategies with experience building and supporting resilient environments.

• Lead R&D and the strategic deployment of AI and automation to otimize core APIs, enhance backend scalability, and security; empower the team to drive operational excellence by eliminating manual toil in infrastructure and deployment cycles. 

• Use Agile/Lean practices to remove roadblocks and empower team members to take ownership of their features.

• Strategic Planning: Collaborate with Senior Tech Leadership and Product Managers to align the technical roadmap with business goals.

• Proactively jump into complex production issues, leading the team through root-cause analysis and resolution.

Skills & Experience

• 2+ years leading engineering teams with direct line management responsibility.

• 5+ years experience developing and maintaining high-performance applications in Go

• Solid understanding of application security best practices and auditing.

• Deep understanding of RESTful services and scalable API design.

• Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance team velocity and modernise frontend development processes.

• Track record of delivering and maintaining digital products used by millions of users.
