Job Description - Lead - Emissions Forecasting

The Opportunity

At APA, our purpose is to secure Australia’s energy future. We’re not doing it alone. We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead - Emissions Forecasting to join our Sustainability and Corporate Affairs team on a permanent, full-time basis. This role plays a critical part in shaping APA’s emissions outlook, developing emissions inventories and supporting our growth focus as we progress through the energy transition.

Reporting to the Head of Climate, you will lead the development of emissions forecasts across APA’s gas infrastructure and power generation assets, oversee Scope 3 emissions inventories, and the end to end management of APA’s emissions data reporting platform. This is a highly analytical and influential role, operating at the intersection of climate science, energy systems, assurance and enterprise decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of periodic emissions forecasts across gas infrastructure and power generation portfolios, including LGC and offset volume forecasting, surrender processes and procedural updates.

  • Develop and maintain assured Group emissions inventories, with a focus on material Scope 3 categories (excluding Category 3 and end-user emissions), including coordination of assurance activities.

  • Support business growth and investment opportunities through emissions due diligence, scenario modelling and impact assessments.

  • End to end management of APA’s Emissions Data Reporting Platform, including system governance, enhancements, user access and data quality optimisation.

  • Provide expert emissions insights to support regulatory, governance and internal decision-making requirements.

  • Partner closely with Climate, Finance, Procurement and operational teams to ensure emissions data, forecasts and methodologies are aligned and fit for purpose.

Your background

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Environmental Science, Climate Science or a related discipline.

  • Extensive work experience in greenhouse gas emissions data management, including forecasting emissions trajectories against targets and decarbonisation goals.

  • Strong technical capability in emissions accounting across Scope 1, 2 and material Scope 3 categories, with experience producing assurance-ready inventories.

  • Solid understanding of energy systems and decarbonisation pathways in the energy sector, including gas infrastructure, power generation, methane reduction, efficiency initiatives and renewables.

  • Sound knowledge of greenhouse gas reporting frameworks and methodologies, including NGER, the GHG Protocol and the Safeguard Mechanism.

  • Advanced analytical and quantitative skills, with strong Excel capability for complex modelling, scenario analysis and reconciliation.

  • Experience owning or administering enterprise emissions reporting platforms (e.g. Salesforce Net Zero Cloud or equivalent), including data governance and controls.

  • Demonstrated ability to explain complex emissions concepts clearly to senior stakeholders.

Working at APA

At APA we’re committed to fostering a safe and inclusive workplace where you can achieve your best.
