Job Description - Lead User Experience Designer


 

 A Federal Government client is seeking a Lead User Experience Designer to support the design and digital solutions in the operations that enable the Regulator to meet its objectives. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, the role is responsible for conducting user research, design and prototyping, and monitoring the outcomes of usability and accessibility testing of components of the Digital ID system.

 

The role requires strong collaboration with stakeholders, technical specialists, and delivery teams to ensure solutions are fit for purpose, user-centred, and aligned with organisational goals.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

·       Conduct user research to identify user needs, objectives and challenges of users of the Digital ID Regulator System.

·       Collaborate with stakeholders to develop user personas, map user journeys and user flows in the context of the Digital ID Regulator System.

·       Design user interfaces to assist in the development of a system which meetings usability and accessibility requirements.

·       Apply User-Centred Design principals and provide guidance and feedback to other team members across the Digital Delivery Branch.

·       Define requirements and be a key stakeholder for usability and accessibility testing to identify issues.

·       Work closely with the development teams to connect business goals, user requirements, and technical implementation.

·       Develop detailed UX design through collaboration with technical teams to ensure design solutions meet usability and accessibility requirements.

·       Contribute to quality assurance by supporting usability and accessibility test planning, validating usability and accessibility requirements, and ensuring solutions meet business and user expectations.

 

Estimated start date: 02 Mar 2026

Length of contract: 12 months

Extension Term: 6 months

Number of Extension: 1

Location of work: QLD, WA, ACT, VIC, NSW, SA, TAS

Working Arrangements:   Hybrid. Client has a requirement to attend the office for 40% of your time each week

Security clearance:  Must be an Australian Citizen and able to obtain Baseline Clearance

 

 

Criteria

The client requires that each candidate must provide a one-page pitch to address all criteria specified (equal to 5000 characters).

 

Selection Criteria:

  • User experience analysis: Level 5 (SFIA)

Determines the approaches to be used for user experience analysis. Plans and manages user experience and accessibility analysis activities. Provides expert advice and guidance to support the adoption and adaptation of agreed approaches. Develops user experience tools, techniques and standards as part of the organisation's framework for user-centred design

 

  • User experience design: Level 5 (SFIA)

Plans and drives user experience design activities, providing expert advice and guidance to support the adoption of agreed approaches. Determines the approaches to be used to design user experiences. Uses iterative approaches to incorporate user feedback or evaluation rapidly into designs. Integrates required visual design and branding into the user experience design activities.

 

Desirable criteria

  • User experience evaluation: Level 4 (SFIA)

Selects appropriate tools and techniques to evaluate user experiences of systems, products, services or devices. Validates that security, usability and accessibility requirements have been met. Checks operational systems, products, services or devices for changes in usability and accessibility needs. Interprets and presents results of evaluations, prioritises issues and reports on remedial actions. Collates input for future user research.
