Job Description - Lecturer / Associate Lecturer in Law

Position Details

About the Position:           

Flinders University is seeking a motivated and engaging Associate Lecturer or Lecturer in Law to contribute to high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate law programs. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of future-ready law graduates through innovative, practice-informed and student-centred teaching. This position is available as either a Teaching Specialist (Academic) or a Teaching Specialist (Clinical Practitioner), allowing candidates to align their appointment with either an emerging academic teaching career or a practice-based legal career.

This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the development of highly skilled and socially engaged law graduates, with teaching contributions across areas such as Evidence, Health Law, Dispute Resolution, Indigenous Peoples, Colonialism and the Law, and Human Service Law.

The Associate Lecturer / Lecturer in Law will contribute across:

  • Deliver innovative, student-centred teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate Law programs using flexible, blended approaches
  • Contribute to topic coordination, curriculum design, program development and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to scholarship of teaching (Academic Teaching Specialist) or bring practice-informed expertise (Clinical Practitioner)
  • Support student development through mentoring, academic and career guidance
  • Engage with legal practice, industry and community partners to enhance learning and employability outcomes

This position is open to domestic candidates. Relocation support may be available to the successful candidate.

About You

You are a collaborative and motivated educator or legal practitioner with a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and student success. You bring a passion for developing future legal professionals and contributing to an inclusive and engaging learning environment.

You will bring:

  • For Level A (Associate Lecturer): A completed four-year tertiary qualification in Law or equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • For Level B (Lecturer): A PhD or EdD in Law (or equivalent). For Teaching Specialist (Clinical Practitioner) applicants, significant professional legal practice experience and active engagement in the profession will be highly regarded
  • Demonstrated experience or capability in tertiary teaching, legal education, mentoring or professional training
  • Evidence of student-centred teaching practice and commitment to improving student learning outcomes
  • Experience or capability in curriculum design, assessment development, and delivery across face-to-face and online modes
  • Understanding of practical legal skills development and contemporary assessment practices
