DWF is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our Construction & Infrastructure team in Brisbane on a temporary basis . This role supports lawyers acting on major construction and engineering matters across Australia, specifically QLD.

You will work closely with partners and lawyers on both front-end and back-end construction work , supporting matters involving roads, buildings, bridges and other large-scale infrastructure projects.

We offer hybrid working, with all your technology needs provided for.

This is a hands-on role supporting a busy practice that advises both principals/owners and contractors across the full project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Legal Assistant who understands how construction projects operate in practice, not just on paper.

Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting lawyers on front-end construction matters , including:

• Drafting, amending and formatting construction contracts and related documentation
• Assisting with contract administration and project documentation

Supporting back-end construction disputes , including:

• Matter management for disputes relating to delays, variations, extensions of time and additional costs
• Assisting with arbitration, adjudication and court proceedings
• Preparing briefs, chronologies, document bundles and court materials
• General legal assistant duties such as billing, file management, diary management and correspondence

What will help you succeed in this role?

You will ideally have:

• Previous experience as a Legal Assistant supporting construction, infrastructure or disputes teams
• Strong understanding of construction contracts and dispute processes
• Exposure to arbitration, adjudication or litigation processes
• A background or prior experience in the construction industry (e.g. engineering, scaffolding, site-based roles or construction administration) is highly regarded
• Excellent attention to detail and document management skills
• Confidence working in a fast-paced, technically complex practice
