Legal Counsel

At PaperCut, we're looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to provide guidance across global compliance, commercial contracts, employment law, and IP. You'll work with teams in Product and Go To Market, to commercialise our products and services to help shape our approach to legal risk and governance.

This role offers flexibility and can be either part-time (4 days per week) or full-time (5 days per week), depending on what works best for the right candidate. We’re open to discussing the arrangement that suits you. The position is hybrid, with an expectation of working from our Melbourne office three days per week.

Some of the things you'll do…

• Keep PaperCut ahead of the curve by overseeing global regulatory changes (like GDPR, HIPPA, DORA, employment law, IP, ESG and commercial legislation) and advising on growth.

• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of contracts and agreements — from EULAs and Service level agreements to supplier and partner agreements — helping teams move forward with confidence.

• Collaborate with Product, Channel, and People & Culture teams to embed legal and compliance thinking into everyday decisions.

• Support our People team on employment and industrial compliance across APAC, EMEA, and the US — including contracts, disputes, and policy updates.

• Manage our IP protection strategy by maintaining and evolving our trademark register and advising on piracy or infringement matters.

• Contribute to business growth by providing sound risk management guidance and helping shape commercial strategies.

• Coach operational team members to recognise legal risks early and support capability building across the business.

A little bit about you...

• You're an experienced senior legal professional with either in-house or in private practice experience.

• You've worked across multiple regions and have an understanding of global compliance, commercial contracts, IP law, and employment legislation.

• You're commercially minded — you don't just manage risk, you look for opportunity.

• You enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams and have a knack for making complex legal concepts easy to understand, helping others bring a more commercial mindset to their day-to-day work

• You're assured in guiding external legal partners and can focus on what needs to stay in-house.

• You're always curious, and like to stay one step ahead, perfect for our ever evolving environment.

• You may have some mentoring or leadership experience, and you're excited to contribute to team development and performance.
