Legal Counsel - Exciting Challenge

We are presently seeking to engage a Legal Counsel who is highly skilled in Commercial Litigation and possesses extensive experience working on litigious matters in the Supreme and Federal Court jurisdictions. This is a full-time opportunity on a 24 month fixed term contract, based at our Head Office in Sydney.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice to mitigate business risks for Kia Australia.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Report to and take direction from Kia Headquarters on class action matters.
• Responsible for instructing External Law Firms on class action matters.
• Provide legal recommendations to Chief Executive Officer on class action matters.
• Conduct legal research analysis and develop case management strategies. 
• Provide high quality legal advice to Senior management on complex litigious issues to enable the business to make key commercial decisions.
• Review court documents and other legal documents, including but not limited to court orders, interlocutory applications, complaints, motions, briefs, and appeals.
• Attend court hearings and present oral arguments effectively.
• Stay updated on changes in laws, regulations, and legal precedents relevant to the practice area.
• Ensuring Kia Australia is compliant to consumer law, franchise laws and corporate governance. 
• Drafting and negotiations on large commercial contracts.

QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Law with a current Legal Practicing Certificate.
• Be a highly skilled litigation lawyer or class action lawyer with a minimum of 5 years PQE experience in Australia.
• Strong knowledge of class actions procedures, rules of evidence and courtroom practices.
• Possesses an excellent understanding of federal court and supreme court rules. 
• Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional written and oral communication abilities.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
• Demonstrated track record of achieving positive outcomes.
• Automotive industry experience, highly ideal.
