Legal Counsel, Front -End Construction

A global giant in the construction industry is seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join its Australian in\-house legal team.

This is a genuinely interesting role for a lawyer who enjoys working close to the business, supporting complex engineering, infrastructure and advisory projects, and providing practical legal advice in a fast\-moving, technical environment.

The Opportunity

You’ll partner closely with commercial and technical stakeholders, advising on front\-end legal and commercial issues, helping manage risk, and enabling projects to progress efficiently. The role offers a strong mix of contracting, advisory and issue management, with exposure to a wide range of internal teams and projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Advising the business on legal and commercial matters in a practical, solutions\-focused way
  


• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating engineering services contracts, standard form agreements, subcontracts and related documentation
  


• Translating legal risk into clear, commercially relevant advice for non\-legal stakeholders
  


• Supporting regulatory compliance and monitoring relevant legislative developments
  


• Assisting with dispute and issue management, including insurance matters, subpoenas and FOI requests
  


• Working with senior legal colleagues on more complex matters
  


• Contributing to internal training, templates and continuous improvement initiatives
  

About You

This role will suit a lawyer who brings:

• Around 5–8 years’ PQE, gained in\-house and/or private practice
  


• Experience in engineering, construction or infrastructure law
  


• Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  


• A commercial, business\-focused mindset and sound judgement
  


• Confidence working autonomously while knowing when to escalate
  


• A collaborative approach and interest in working within a large, matrixed organisation
