About the university

The University of Notre Dame Australia is a private Catholic University with over 1,000 permanent staff providing an exceptional educational experience to over 12,000 students across our Fremantle, Broome, and Sydney campuses, as well as clinical schools in Victoria and New South Wales.

About the office

The University Library consists of six libraries networked across Australia. While the individual libraries are managed locally, they report nationally to the University Librarian.
 
About the role

We are looking for a Library Technician to join our team and support the daily operations of the University Library. This role is based on campus and provides direct service to students and staff, helping them access library resources and information.

You will assist with a range of tasks including answering enquiries, maintaining collections, processing and cataloguing materials, supporting digitisation projects, and helping with resource sharing. You’ll also contribute to library-specific projects that improve services and support learning and research.

This position plays an important role in supporting the University’s mission to provide an excellent education in a caring and inclusive environment. By helping students and staff access the resources they need, you’ll be contributing to their academic success and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help students and staff borrow and return library items and assist with general research and information enquiries.
  • Support the acquisition and processing of new library materials, including cataloguing, managing serials, and preparing items for use.
  • Assist in delivering research skills sessions to help users find and use information effectively.
  • Supervise casual library staff and support their daily tasks.
  • Help develop and improve library procedures and train staff on how to follow them.
  • Build a strong understanding of how the library works, including staff roles, workflows, policies, and systems.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • Completion of a relevant formal qualification with relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
  • Knowledge of the principles of library information services and a demonstrated ability to follow and interpret policies, procedures and standards.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the processes required to obtain scholarly information resources and to provide access to these resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply high level communication, customer service and interpersonal skills (both oral and written), and the demonstrated ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with staff at all levels of the organisation.
  • Demonstrated ability to display initiative and reliability, assume responsibility for tasks and projects and to resolve problems.
  • Effective time management and organisational skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, solve problems, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.
