About the role
We are currently seeking an experienced Management Accountant to join the Opera Australia team based at The Opera Centre in Surry Hills. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring financial integrity and operational efficiency by preparing and providing accurate financial information, analysis and insights to support decision-making processes.

Key Areas of focus
Financial Accounting and Reporting
  • Actively contribute to the month-end process for applicable departments, including posting of accrual journals, deferral of income and the preparation of assigned balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Perform all accounting processes, prepare and present quarterly management accounts, complete the year-end process – including preparation of the annual financial statements, for the Johnson Bequest and OA Benevolent Fund.
  • Assist the Finance Manager with the preparation of the Opera Australia annual financial statements.
  • Assist with the annual audit of OA and controlled/associated entities.
  • Prepare annual Withholding tax returns.
  • Prepare quarterly & annual Creative Australia reporting and ABS surveys.
Management Accounting and Reporting
  • Work closely with, influence and provide advice to key stakeholders within the business to help drive business performance and ensure high quality financial decisions are made – in particular, for the Artistic, Development and applicable Support departments as well as OACF.
  • Identify and drive financial efficiency with heads of department in the business, ensuring that resources in the department are allocated optimally with rigorous pressure on costs.
  • Develop effective financial models and insightful analysis to support the business in understanding the cost structure, value drivers and financial implications of alternative strategies and approaches.
  • Investigate opportunities for cost reductions within the business and also identify material risks.
  • Provide high quality, timely monthly management reports to key stakeholders in the business.
  • Provide timely reporting, analysis and insights to the business on key labour utilisation metrics with a view to ensuring optimisation of OA’s fixed workforce.
  • Work closely with the business to re-forecast expenses on a monthly basis in OA’s reporting and forecasting tool.
  • Provide analysis and insight into variances to budget and forecast to key stakeholders in the business.

  • Ensuring that your acts or omissions do not adversely affect others.
  • Complying with OA SAFE and any reasonable instructions, policies and procedure given by OA, to enable OA to comply with WHS laws and maintain a safe working environment.
About you 
We are seeking candidates who have high level problem solving and judgement skills, as well as interpersonal and relationship management skills. You will also have advanced attention to detail and time management skills.
  
You will have:
  • Tertiary Qualifications in Accounting or other related field
  • 8+ years’ proven experience in a similar role
  • Experience with dealing with management and being able to interpret the numbers
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication, self-management and excellent organisational skills
  • Proven ability to work under pressure and to deadlines  
  • Proficiency with Excel at an Intermediate/Advanced level 
It is preferred you have
  • Professional qualification (CA, CPA)
  • Proficiency with Sun Systems G/L at an Intermediate/Advanced level 
Appointment to this position is subject to the position holder having residency status or a visa with work rights.
