What does the business unit do?

Emergency Management, within the Department of Justice and Community Safety works closely with government and agencies across the emergency management portfolio. The group is led by the Deputy Secretary, Emergency Management. Emergency Management includes the department's emergency management accountabilities and statutory entities and offices.

EM Communications delivers communication services on behalf of the department's emergency management group to inform and educate the community about emergency management policies, programs and legislation across the emergency management sector to keep the community safe. The EM Communications function is responsible for the coordination of preparedness communications, response, relief and recovery.

What will the role do?

The Manager, Digital Communications leads a team to deliver multi-channel emergency management communication services, to inform and educate the community and stakeholders about relevant policies, programs and services before, during and after emergencies.

The role collaborates with a range of stakeholders, including program / project directors and teams, senior executives, ministerial offices, stakeholders, suppliers and statutory entities, to support the delivery of organisational priorities and project objectives across all digital platforms.

Some key duties include:

  • Leads a team of digital communication professionals to deliver compelling multi-channel Emergency Management Communication in preparation for, response to and recovery from emergencies.
  • Provides expert advice to key stakeholders, including via the delivery of effective digital communication strategies that support organisational priorities
  • This role is responsible for delivering innovative and integrated digital strategies, services management and advice for Emergency Management Communications

What skills and knowledge should the Manager, Digital Communication have?

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • Significant experience in the development and delivery of a wide range of communication activities and functions within a complex, diverse and sensitive environment.
  • Authoritative knowledge of State Government and department communication policies and processes.
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring teams in a complex, project-based environment and ensuring the highest standards of delivery
  • An appropriate tertiary qualification in communications or related field is highly desirable
