At the NSW Department of Education, we educate and inspire lifelong learners – from early childhood, through schooling to vocational education and training.


 


 



  • Ongoing Full-Time

  • Located in Parramatta with flexible working arrangements available

  • Salary $149,739 to $173,174 plus superannuation and leave loading


 


 


About the role


 



  • Lead a high-performing media team to deliver proactive and reactive media strategies

  • Advise Executives, Principals and Ministerial offices with media guidance in fast-paced, high-pressure environments

  • Shape compelling media narratives that align with government priorities, support major programs and drive public confidence in public education


 


The Media Manager leads a team of media officers to plan, develop, and deliver proactive and/or reactive media strategies for the Department. The role works with executive members, senior staff and school principals and Ministerial Offices to promote and manage the Department’s strategic engagement with the media.

About you



  • Bring proven experience leading media or communications teams in complex, high-profile environments

  • Demonstrate strong judgement when managing sensitive issues, reputational risk and crisis media

  • Build trusted relationships with executives, Ministerial offices and journalists

  • Communicate clearly under pressure, translating complex issues into sharp media messages

  • Thrive in fast-paced settings, balancing competing priorities while meeting tight deadlines

  • Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.


 


Essential requirements of the role



  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline or demonstrated related equivalent professional experience and training.

  • Working with Children Check for paid employment

  • Proven effectiveness identifying and developing positive news stories about a large, complex and visible public or private sector organisation

  • Willingness and ability to work a schedule that requires out of hours work, and during holiday periods

  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
