Mechanical Technician

Category 5 Labour Management are proud to partner with our client who own and operate a state-of-the-art coal fired power station located in Millmerran, approximately 1 hour commute from Toowoomba and 30 minutes commute from Pittsworth. We are seeking applications for multiple Mechanical Technicians to join their team. 

The Company

As one of the most energy efficient coal-fired projects in Australia, the power station uses a supercritical boiler, with low nitrogen-oxide burners that cut NOx emissions by 50 to 70%. The station supplies base-load power and enough electricity to power approximately 1.1 million homes.

The Role

As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician, you will have responsibility for the maintenance of the 2 x 435MW units and associated auxiliary plant, ensuring the plant achieves maximum availability and reliability. This optimal performance must be achieved whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety, environmental responsibility, and protection of the major assets.

These roles will be day work positions working a Monday to Friday 38hr week roster, although there will at times be requirements to work overtime and / or shift work.

The Maintenance Technician will fault find, repair, test, modify and commission equipment to achieve plant performance targets.
Role Duties include:

• Maintain the plant effectively to the set standards; you will install, repair, maintain, test, modify, commission and fault find machinery and equipment
• Complete tasks to the set standards
• Complete plant routine maintenance and testing as allocated
• Work closely with the Team Leader and Leading Hands and the Production Coordinator to ensure plant is maintained to optimum condition
• Work closely with the Production Operations team to achieve plant performance targets
• Follow maintenance procedures and highlight where revisions to procedures are required. Work with others to revise or create new procedures
• Perform non-trade tasks incidental to their work

Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

• Trade certificate – Cert III Mechanical Engineering
• Understanding of workplace health and safety
• Prior experience with risk assessments/JSA’s/work method statements
• Work well in a team environment
• Can do attitude and the ability to think outside of the box
• Good communication and time management skills

Desired but not essential:

• Experience with Boiler and/or Turbine plant
• Experience with PF milling, air cooled condensers, water treatment or other specialised plant within power station
• Pressure welding qualifications
• First Aid Certificate
• Forklift / EWP / crane driver tickets
