The Accelerated Loading Facility (ALF) is a mechanical/ hydraulic device used to simulate heavy vehicle trafficking on road pavement structures under controlled conditions. It is BIG – approximately 26m long and 4m high. It allows road materials to be tested and for their performance to be evaluated in a very short time span compared to test sites under normal traffic conditions. This device is designed to operate on-site on particular roads in the network, or in a controlled environment within a large shed (50m x 20m).
In this role you will be tasked with ensuring the Western Australian ALF device is maintained and operated to our testing requirements. As with all mechanical devices, this will require sound fault diagnosis skills and practical skills for correcting faults. The position is also responsible for the updating of documentation (covering maintenance and safe operations) to meet both quality standards and compliance with all work health and safety requirements.
About you
This role would suit an enthusiastic, self-starting problem solver who takes pride in achieving the efficiency and safety outcomes for equipment in their care. Good communication skills are essential in working alongside research scientists and engineers, technical staff and external service providers. Ideally you will have knowledge of hydraulics and electrical systems, as well as hold a current forklift driver’s licence.
This role requires the successful candidate to be on-site in WA with flexibility/availability to travel to assist with the ALF device based in Melbourne/Queensland on occasion.
This role will be suitable to mechanical technician with minimum of 3 years heavy industrial experience who enjoy a mechanical challenging environment, as long as you are confident in your mechanical and technical problem-solving capabilities and have a solution driven approach.
The successful candidates must be proactive, take full accountability and truly be passionate about making a difference within the transportation industry.
