About the team

The Head and Neck Unit at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre is a multidisciplinary team treating all aspects of head and neck cancer, including mucosal, cutaneous, salivary and thyroid disease. Disciplines within the unit include surgery, radiation oncology, medical oncology, radiology, pathology, nuclear medicine, allied health, nursing and psychology. We value collaboration, respect, and a shared enthusiasm for patient care, teamwork and research. The unit is also active in head and neck cancer research, and clinicians are supported to contribute to this work alongside their clinical practice.

This is the first time a dedicated Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery position has been established within the unit, reflecting the integration of OMFS into the head and neck service. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to help shape this new role within an established and highly regarded team.

About the role

This is a position for an experienced Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to join the Head and Neck surgical team, providing OMFS expertise across the diagnosis, treatment planning and surgical management of head and neck cancer patients.

A regular day will see you:

• leading or supervising ward rounds


• participating in outpatient clinics


• performing cancer resection and/or reconstruction in theatre


• teaching junior head and neck staff (residents, registrars and fellows)

About you

You will be an essential member of the head and neck team, bringing:

• FRACDS (OMS) or equivalent fellowship, with demonstrated post-fellowship experience in head and neck oncological and reconstructive surgery


• A track record of, or genuine interest in, academic contribution — research, publication, or supervision of trainees


• Strong skills in workup, diagnosis and treatment planning for head and neck cancer patients


• A collaborative, can-do approach, and willingness to contribute to multidisciplinary team discussions with all members of the unit

Essential Criteria

• Medical and Dental Qualifications registrable by AHPRA


• FRACDS – OMS (or equivalent)


• Head and Neck Oncology Fellowship Experience
