Job Description - Mens Indigenous Health Facilitator

  • Full time, 15-month contract (possibility of extension)

Job Description



The EACH Ngarrang Gulinj-al Boordup (NGB) Aboriginal Health and Wellbeing Team supports and assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men to access culturally appropriate and effective health care and support services at EACH and providing cultural strengthening support.

As the Mens Indigenous Health Facilitator your duties will include:

  • Working alongside Indigenous men to develop health plans while ensuring they are involved in the process.
  • Engaging Indigenous men in cultural activities to support their cultural journey and support their connection to local Aboriginal Community organisations, including other relevant organisations to support with overall wellbeing.
  • Connecting and supporting referrals for men to access EACH Primary health services and programs and providing advocacy and support men to self-advocate when they are referred.
  • Developing and facilitating innovative activities to engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.
  • Building close networks with key Elders and the Community, and ensuring you utilise community resources, networks, and opportunities to develop and build men’s skills and knowledge to connect with the local Aboriginal Community.

If you’re committed and dedicated to improving access for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the community to culturally appropriate and effective primary health care services to improve health outcomes, you might be exactly the person we are looking for! 

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • Extensive experience in working with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander communities and undertaking cultural plans.
  • Sound knowledge of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander values and family kinship.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous communities and experience working alongside and building connections with the Indigenous community.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively develop and implement change.
  • An ability to collaborate effectively with clients, families, colleagues, stakeholders and other service providers.
  • Current state-based driver’s license (mandatory).

Highly regarded

Qualifications

and/or Certifications:

  • Cert IV or Diploma level Qualification in Health Promotion or Health studies (or equivalent tertiary qualification).
  • Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Certificate IV or the Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice and be eligible to apply for registration as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner.
