Job Description:

• 0.2 EFT (1 day a week ) located at Normanby House

About the Role

Join our Older Adult Mental Health team and play a meaningful role in enhancing the wellbeing of older people experiencing mental health challenges. Working alongside a multidisciplinary team, you will support the delivery of innovative, person-centred therapeutic and recreational programs that promote independence, engagement and quality of life.

• Support the delivery of therapeutic, recreational and leisure programs in collaboration with Occupational Therapists, Recreational Therapists and the broader multidisciplinary team.
• Assist consumers with daily living skills, therapeutic activities and group programs that promote psychological, social and physical wellbeing.
• Work closely with consumers and their families to support individually tailored, person-centred care plans and meaningful engagement in activities.
• Facilitate and evaluate group and individual activities under the guidance of senior clinical staff, ensuring programs meet the diverse needs of older adults.
• Contribute to the development of innovative and multi-sensory activities that enhance quality of life for consumers of the Older Adult Mental Health Service.
• Support Residential Aged Care Facilities by assisting with strategies and activities that build staff capability in managing persistent psychiatric symptoms and behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD)
• Maintain accurate documentation, participate in handovers, clinical reviews, team meetings and education sessions, and work collaboratively to deliver safe, high-quality care.

Classifications for this position will range from SO31 - SO34 ($37.09 - $39.33 per hour)

Your Contribution

• Current enrolment in a Bachelor of Nursing Program or equivalent (i.e. Master of Nursing) or Current enrolment in a Diploma of Nursing program or undertaking undergraduate studies towards a health practitioner degree in Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Dietetics
• In final year old study, soon to graduate
• Well-developed interpersonal skills, clear communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work as a team member and contribute to team decisions, as well as the willingness to take advice and direction.
• An interest in understanding the range of issues experienced by people experiencing mental illness presenting with high level needs, and a commitment to helping meet the needs of consumers and families/carers.
• A valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, or willing to obtain

About the Team

The older adult mental health service components are Normanby House acute inpatient service, the Aged Psychiatry Assessment and Treatment Team, and the Residential Support Program, located at St George’s Hospital in Kew, as well as links to psychogeriatric nursing homes for extended care, and a Consultation & Liaison Service provided to the St. George’s health service.
