National Marketing and Content Coordinator - work from anywhere

Position Overview

The Planning Institute of Australia is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated National Marketing and Content Coordinator to tell our stories and to help communicate the value of planning and planners.

To be successful, you will need to be a great designer (Canva or Adobe suite), a sharp copywriter, and have a head for strategic comms.

Reporting to the CEO, you will be someone with a broad toolkit of marketing and content skills, as you will have a key role in shaping our messaging, building our brand, and creating engaging content.

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual to make a significant impact on our marketing efforts and to help advance Australia’s built environment. If you are passionate about content creation, marketing, and great places and spaces, we encourage you to apply and be part of our dynamic team.

Planning Institute of Australia

The Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) is the national body representing planning and the planning profession.

Our mission is to inspire planners and elevate their role in shaping Australia’s future. We do this through championing the value of planning, leading the profession, strong advocacy and contemporary education.

PIA has around 30 staff nationwide, and we connect with more than 10,000 planning professionals annually.

What you’ll be doing

You'll be the only national marketing and comms role in our team… so every day will be different, and you'll be expected to work on a diverse range of tasks with significant autonomy. This includes:

Social media management and curation

Coordinate and grow PIA's social media accounts.

Create engaging social media posts to promote national PIA events, initiatives, and advocacy priorities.

Monitor social media platforms, respond to comments and messages, and engage with the audience.

Analyse (and report on) social media metrics and insights to identify trends, optimize content, and improve engagement.

Work with State and Territory Divisions to maximise our social media impact.

Content creation

Create engaging and informative content across multiple platforms, including social media updates, videos, infographics, written articles and more.

Establish shared resources for PIA’s State and Territory Divisions, including templates and images.

Edit and proofread content to maintain high-quality standards and consistent messaging.

Collaborate with subject matter experts and members to ensure accuracy and relevance of content.

Leverage our existing content (such as state-based planning journals) to expand our reach.

Contribute to the development of PIA’s annual review.

Marketing and brand

Coordinate and shape national content for PIA’s direct marketing communications to members.

Collaborate across the organisation to achieve consistent messaging and brand representation.

Contribute to the creation of marketing collateral, such as brochures, presentations, and newsletters.

Monitor and report on marketing campaign performance using relevant metrics.

Website management

Update and maintain the PIA website with accurate and engaging content.

Communications and media coordination

Produce the daily media report.

Coordinate media inquiries, liaise with journalists and produce media releases and key messaging documents.

What we’re looking for

Someone with great eye for design and who is energetic, innovative, and collaborative.

Ideally, you’ll have most of the following:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.

Proven experience in content creation, preferably in a marketing or communications role. Canva experience is essential.

Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt content for different platforms and audiences.

Proficient in social media management and familiarity with social media analytics tools.

Knowledge of digital marketing tactics, including email marketing, SEO, and SEM.

Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and website platforms.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Knowledge of the planning or urban development industry (desirable but not essential).

Working for PIA includes some great benefits, including a supportive team culture and a strong focus on work-life balance.

Other benefits of this role include:

Impactful projects: Engage in nationally significant projects that contribute to the development and advancement of planning practices in Australia.

Collaborative environment: Work closely with a dedicated and passionate team committed to making a positive impact in the planning sector.

Professional development: Opportunities to enhance project management skills and knowledge through training and professional development initiatives.

This role is work from anywhere, although you can also work from our Canberra or Sydney offices.
