Job Summary

Leveraging deep technical and engineering expertise, you deliver innovative, practical solutions to complex operational challenges while providing high-level advice on risk, resilience, and asset performance. You play a key role in influencing strategic decisions, ensuring facilities are safe, compliant, and optimised to support network availability and long-term business objectives.

Job Description

We're Australia's leading telecommunications and technology company. And, with a presence in more than 20 countries, we're creating a global footprint – which for you, offers incredible work opportunities and experiences to develop and grow your career.

Our InfraCo Team

Being in our InfraCo business means you'll be a part of creating Australia's most valuable telco infrastructure business.

The role with us

Telstra InfraCo is currently seeking a Network Facility Manager to join our Facility Operations team.

In this unique position, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of critical network facilities that support Australia's telecommunications infrastructure. Acting as the primary operational contact for your sites, you will provide first-response fault management, assess and coordinate technical issues, oversee maintenance activities, and ensure the ongoing reliability and resilience of facility assets.

Unlike a traditional Facilities Manager role, this position is highly hands-on and operational. You will regularly engage with critical facility systems, contractors, stakeholders, and customers to identify risks, resolve issues, and maintain operational readiness across a portfolio of network facilities.

You will be responsible for ensuring asset performance, managing site risks, coordinating maintenance activities, supporting incident response, and driving compliance with Telstra standards and procedures.

We are seeking individuals with practical technical experience in one or more of the technologies listed below.

Role Accountabilities

Management and operation of complex facility asset systems supporting telecommunications network equipment at Telstra's critical network facilities.

1. Oversight and participation in the operation and maintenance of engineering systems including:

  • Standby Generators

  • Electrical Distribution Systems – including DC power systems, UPS and STS

  • HVAC systems – including chilled water systems

  • Fire protection systems

  • Plumbing and other ancillary services

2. Act as the first point of contact for facility-related incidents, alarms, faults, and operational issues.

3. Conduct initial fault diagnosis, risk assessment, and coordination of corrective actions to maintain site integrity and network resilience.

4. Manage and oversee contractor attendance, maintenance activities, and site-based works.

5. Assess and oversee site-related Change Management activities.

6. Conduct audits, inspections, and condition assessments of facility assets.

7. Act as the principal site-based contact for building stakeholders, customers, tenants, contractors, and external authorities.

8. Identify, assess, and escalate risks impacting facility operations or network performance.

About you

If you are a proactive and technically minded professional who enjoys problem solving, fault finding, and operating critical infrastructure, this is the role for you.

We are looking for individuals with practical experience operating and maintaining building services within a complex commercial, industrial, telecommunications, data centre, defence, healthcare, utilities, or critical infrastructure environment.

Highly desirable qualifications and experience include:

  • Trade qualification as an Electrician

  • Cert III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R)

  • Experience operating critical facility infrastructure

  • Experience with standby generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution systems, HVAC, or BMS platforms

  • Experience managing contractors and maintenance activities

  • Strong fault-finding and incident management capability

While engineering qualifications are welcomed, this role is best suited to candidates with practical operational and maintenance experience. Applicants with trade-based backgrounds and hands-on experience in critical facilities, building operations, industrial maintenance, telecommunications, or data centre environments will be highly regarded.

The position provides an excellent pathway into critical infrastructure operations and offers exposure to a diverse range of technologies supporting Australia's telecommunications network.

We recognise that diverse teams deliver better outcomes and are committed to increasing representation across our facilities operations workforce. We strongly encourage applications from women interested in technical, operational, and critical infrastructure careers. Whether your background is in electrical, HVAC, facilities operations, industrial maintenance, defence, utilities, telecommunications, or data centres, we welcome applicants who can bring diverse experiences and perspectives to our team.

Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills are essential for effectively working with contractors, customers, operational teams, and facility occupants.

If you believe you are ready for this role, we encourage you to apply.

We're committed to building a diverse and inclusive workforce in all its forms. We encourage applicants from diverse gender and cultural backgrounds. To learn more about how we support our people through the recruitment process, visit tel.st/thrive.
