Job Description - Network Technician / Engineer (3 Backfill Roles)

Our Global Technology Consulting Client is currently looking for three Network Technicians / Engineers for a federal government program of work.

These are long-term contract roles initially until December 2024 with potential extensions, and based in their Canberra office .

Due to security clearance requirements for this role, candidates must be Australian citizens with a minimum NV1 security clearance.

Details of the roles are as follows:

Networks and Gateways Engineer:

As the selected candidate, you will:

  • Manage, plan, and deliver complex engineering activities and exercise assigned engineering authorities.
  • Translate high-level goals into actionable plans and implement engineering advancements within the Defence environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, influence team work, and mentor developing engineers.
  • Evaluate technical and design packages, ensuring compliance with requirements and regulatory frameworks.
  • Lead safety considerations in engineering activities and manage workflows and resources to achieve measurable milestones.

To be successful in this role you should have:

  • A Bachelor of Engineering recognized by the Washington Accord and 5+ years' experience in large-scale, geographically dispersed, and security-hardened environments.
  • Experience as a Technical Architect or Senior Operational Support in Gateway environments and designing Gateway solutions using various technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of frameworks and standards like ISM, NIST, and ISO27001, along with an understanding of the security threat landscape.
  • Skills in practical application of requirements, strong communication and negotiation skills, and experience with DevSecOps frameworks.
  • Ability to work autonomously, adapt quickly to changing requirements, and develop highly available systems in various states of connectivity.

It is desirable if you have:

  • 5+ years' experience in multi-vendor geographically dispersed solutions and secure infrastructure systems with varying security requirements.
  • Experience designing and supporting large-scale ICT Gateways using Arista, Fortinet, and implementing Secure Email Gateways with ISM security controls.
  • Knowledge of network load-balancing technologies, Virtualisation and Hyper-Converged Infrastructure, and Active Directory and PKI certificate services.
  • Skills in scripting languages like Python, Bash, and Powershell, and experience with governance frameworks like the Australian Information Security Manual (ISM).
  • Familiarity with zero-trust architecture principles and experience with Australian Defence Force environments and their unique networking and security constraints.

Network Technician / Senior Network Security Technician:

As the selected candidate, you will:

  • Support the design, build, and deployment of complex network solutions.
  • Complete and review all associated network documentation.
  • Provide Network SME advice to the customer, and internal and external stakeholders to facilitate project definition, system architecture, and process improvement.
  • Create Knowledge Articles on key processes, network devices, and systems for use by the service desk and wider IT support staff.
  • Identify innovative service improvements that provide additional value to network solutions.
  • Work collaboratively in a high-performing team environment.

To be successful in this role you should have:

  • Experience as a Network/Gateway engineer.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in networking technologies, including:
    • Routing
    • Switching
    • Next Gen Firewalls
    • Voice Over IP
    • Enterprise Wireless LAN infrastructure
    • Network Segmentation
    • Flow Control
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard frameworks (e.g., TOGAF)

It is desirable if you have:

  • Knowledge and experience of SEA2273 Minerva systems.
  • Experience working within or interoperating with the Defence Network environment.
  • Experience applying frameworks to architecture and solution design, including test and evaluation procedures.
