Principal Power Systems Engineer – Lead the Planning Function for a Global Energy Assurance Leader

My client is a global expert in energy assurance and risk management, playing a central role in Australia's energy transition. Their Planning, Energy Markets and Strategy team delivers complex power system modelling, strategic network planning, and market and regulatory advisory across the NEM, backed by world-leading technical experts in every grid discipline. As they continue to scale in Australia, they're looking for a technically outstanding and commercially sharp engineer to take on a senior technical leadership role across their power system planning engagements.

What you will be doing

• Lead complex network planning and power system analysis engagements end to end, ensuring consistent, high quality and efficient delivery


• Drive the modelling and analytical approach for transmission and power system planning work, acting as the authoritative voice on methodology and outcomes


• Represent the business externally as a senior technical authority with customers, partners and industry stakeholders


• Work closely with account managers and segment leads to shape and support strategic opportunities


• Provide technical direction, mentoring and coordination to engineers across the team


• Review and refine scopes of work and internal methodologies, ensuring effort estimates are robust and defensible


• Evaluate and champion new tools, models and technologies that lift the team's analytical capability


• Contribute to the strategic technical direction of the department, including identifying emerging capability needs

What they are looking for

• 10+ years' experience in power systems or network planning, with an engineering degree or equivalent


• Strong working knowledge of transmission planning, power system modelling and market/regulatory advisory in the NEM


• Comfortable acting as the technical reference point on complex, high-value engagements


• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and translate technical detail for a commercial audience


• Proven experience managing projects and project teams


• Sound commercial judgement and the ability to make and defend recommendations


• Genuine credibility as a subject matter expert in network planning
