Job Description - Nurse Unit Manager Level 1 - Drug and Alcohol Serice

What you'll be doing


The Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) level 1 in the Drug and Alcohol (D & A) setting is the registered nurse in charge and is responsible for the coordination of patient services, unit management and staff management. In the D&A service, a NUM is responsible for one or more of the following:
  • Opioid Treatment Units, Bungora (Wollongong Unit) and LAMP (Shoalhaven Unit),
  • Withdrawal Management Services, Orana Centre (Wollongong Unit) and SDAS (Shoalhaven Unit),
  • Hospital Consultation Liaison Services (Wollongong and Shoalhaven).

  • These services provide comprehensive service involving assessment, prevention, early identification & intervention. Leading Nursing and clerical staff to deliver timely high-quality care, patient and staff safety, managing the demand, efficient use of resources and capacity for the service. The NUM is responsible for the coordination of patient services, service management and management of the nursing and administrative staff aligning with the strategic directions of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD).


    As the manager of the unit the purpose of the NUM role is to;
  • Lead, direct and coordinate patient care, at the service level.
  • Ensure the practice of nursing is safe and efficient, while maintaining standards of care.
  • Manage the business/management processes of the service.
  • Model the CORE Values of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

  • The NUM performs as a clinical leader and manager with accountability for culture, quality and safety, professional integrity, financial management, change management and the experience of clients in the D & A service. The NUM is pivotal to the cultivation of collaborative relationships and effective teamwork furthering the advancement of the nursing profession. 

    All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

    Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

    This recruitment may be used to create a talent pool / eligibility list where candidates may be offered casual, ongoing permanent, or temporary full-time or part-time positions within the next 18 months.

    Please note: Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
