Job Description - Nurse Unit Manager - Sydney (Full Time)

Are you an experienced Nurse Leader looking for a new challenge? MSI Sydney is looking for a Nurse Unit Manager to oversee an experienced and cohesive team of clinicians, administrative assistants and sterilisation technicians to successfully lead our busy and successful Day Theatre in Westmead and Medical Centre in the CBD, Sydney. If you're a natural leader and want to assist in providing safe and accessible reproductive healthcare to women, men and people across the state, whilst making a positive impact to their lives, this role is for you.

MSI Australia operates a network of 10 clinics, a national telemedicine service providing comprehensive termination of pregnancy, vasectomy services from 25 locations and national family planning support.

Position title:  Nurse Unit Manager 
Department:  Sydney Clinics
Main Location: Westmead
Reports to:  Director – Clinical Operations and Nursing 
Direct reports:  Associate Nurse Unit Manager, Clinical Nurses, Registered Nurses, Medical Administration Assistants, CSSD Technicians
Hours per week:  Full-time, 38 hours, Mon - Fri
Duration:  Permanent

Position purpose:  Our Nurse Unit Managers lead our clinics with purpose to provide safe, high-quality client-centred care, whilst also ensuring the smooth running of the day-to-day operations such as people management, rostering and payroll, financial planning and budget management, managing clinical & OHS risk and ensuring MSI Australia provides best practice, quality care and solutions in line with our internal policies and procedures. 

Our Westmead clinic is open across Monday to Friday, with lists providing Surgical Termination of Pregnancy, Medical Termination of Pregnancy, Long-Acting-Reversible-Contraception, and Vasectomy. Our Macquarie street clinic is open 3-4 days per week, with lists providing Medical Termination of Pregnancy and Long-Acting-Reversible-Contraception.

The Nurse Unit Manager role is a full-time, salaried position, reporting to our Director of Nursing & Operations. The position is worked Monday - Friday.

Our Nurse Unit Managers across Australia work closely with our Support Office operational team based in Melbourne, VIC, in order to ensure the best outcomes for our people, clients, and clinics.

Key Selection Criteria

  • A Pro-choice advocate;
  • Registered Nurse with AHPRA registration;
  • Extensive management experience in a clinical setting;
  • Sound knowledge of emerging digital health strategies,
  • Knowledge of National Accreditation Standards and ACORN standards;
  • Ability to manage budgets and staffing requirements;
  • Experience achieving high clinical standards;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Leadership skills that promote a positive team culture;
  • Active and reflective listening skills with an understanding of how to provide empathetic care;
  • Experience in day surgery, recovery, and women's health (desirable);
  • Leadership qualification (desirable);
  • Family Planning Certificate or Midwifery qualification (desirable);
  • Phlebotomy competency (desirable).
