Steelmaking Coal

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.   In Australia, we operate two open cut and three underground Steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, every year producing millions of tonnes of the highest quality hard coking coal for this purpose.

We are looking for an experienced, hands on and professional Open Cut Examiner who has a passion for safety and continuous improvement to join the Capcoal Surface Operations Team.

The Open Cut Examiner (OCE) will perform this statutory duty with a key focus on ensuring a safe workplace for coal mine workers. The role will include monitoring, inspecting and reporting on mining activities and conditions. You will undertake investigation activities and implement corrective actions to help prioritise safety in the workplace.

You will utilise your strong people management skills to coordinate teams and equipment, in keeping with relevant legislation and Capcoal SHE requirements. Your demonstrated leadership and safety management skills will be key in delivering and maintaining compliant work practices.

• Knowledge of the Mining Legislation
• SHE systems knowledge
• Open cut mining techniques experience
• A minimum of 2 years OCE experience
• Current OCE RIIRIS402A qualification
• OCE’s Certificate of proficiency in mine gases and gas testing
• RIIENV301A - Conduct atmospheric monitoring.
• Open Cut Examiners Certificate
• S1, S2, S3 & G2 qualifications

It would be advantageous if you also hold current operating skills for the various types of equipment on site.
