Operations Manager

Sunwater is excited to be expanding our operations in Cloncurry on our North West Pipeline and we are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead the team. You will be based in either Cloncurry/Mt Isa or we are open to a fly in, fly out arrangement from either Cairns, Townsville and Brisbane. Please note, for the fly in/fly out arrangement, you will be expected to be onsite a minimum of 3 days per week.

The role:

In this newly created role, you will report direct to the General Manager North and you will oversee and manage the operation of regional bulk water systems and industrial pipelines to ensure they are operated in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with shareholder and community expectations. You will also oversee and manage the operational team to develop and support a high-performance regional operations team to achieve the most efficient use of resources. Other responsibilities include:

  • Develop and lead a customer focussed culture and use knowledge and experience to resolve customer complaints and issues in a manner that promotes a positive customer experience and is in accordance with Sunwater’s policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and ensure operational activities are planned, scheduled and resourced effectively to deliver cost effective and safe operations in accordance with Sunwater policies, procedures, standard work instructions and safe work method statements
  • Provide input and advice into development of Renewals program and budget and support the delivery of the program in collaboration with the Project Delivery groups.
  • Understand, identify, assess and manage risks associated with Sunwater’s regional operations and infrastructure, and assist in the development of mitigation strategies
  • Support strategies and plans for the Region enhance Sunwater’s financial position, respond to changes and trends in the external environment, and strategically position Sunwater for response 

You will bring:

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager with highly developed skills in tactical management, operation and maintenance of infrastructure assets to maximise performance and reliability. You will have strong written communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare written technical reports, presentations, and other communications in a clear and logical manner. You will also have the ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to influence outcomes to achieve organisational objectives. In addition, you will:-

  • Trade, Tertiary qualifications or significant experience relevant to the key accountabilities within the role.
  • 7+ years experience in managing water storage, treatment and distribution infrastructure, and operations.
  • Qualifications in project or business management (Desirable)
  • Highly developed understanding of financial principles including budgets and procurement
  • Developed skills in managing contractual agreements, breaches and implications
